Help-a-Mate at the Shed
One of the most successful programs we run in our Men's Shed is the 'Help a Mate' program which was the brainchild of member John Peters several years ago and - and it has the full support of all members. When one of our members needs a bit of a helping hand, all he has to do is contact our coordinator, John Peters, and discuss his need for some assistance.
“Help-a-Mate” in 2025
Comments from the coordinator John Peters
This year, activities for our PNMS “Help a Mate” program have been again busy although many members have been away this last winter.
The team has received a number of requests this year. We follow a well-structured method that assures a well-considered and safe approach to the larger activities in particular, and the good news is, as mentioned previously, we all have had a great time, especially the big coffee breaks, lunches and those notorious “frothies” and “cheeky reds” with activities.
Now closing in on 50 Helps including a quite a number of small “Help a Mate” activities that have been going on to assist members we do encourage this via the “Help a Mate” team and the “Project Development Group” subcommittee and would ask again if you could keep the coordinator (JP) informed for record purposes only as the whole purpose is to get together and help our PNMS Mates, please contact either one of your Help a Mate team members Damian, Darrell and JP to ask for help as we meet quite regularly to discuss all requested activities through our very productive Project Development Group run by Marcus Fox.
It is quite invigorating to receive a number of inquiries from members asking how I can help, and I would suggest to keep an eye on our PNMS “Whatsapp” for a Help a Mate shout out to assist and details noting our new revised “Project Review” application proforma.
Our Free Waste disposal program is well supported and encouraged by our Mornington Shire Council we have a very generous 12 monthly approval that has been very beneficial to our various PNMS Activity groups.

Repairs to some Dodgy Steps
A big thanks from Peter G for your assistance on the day and to Wayne for all the early preparation work, the new hand rails, posts, steps, etc. All have come up a real treat to assist Peter running up to check out the top garden. We thank Peter for the post-work BBQ luncheon in the sunshine with all the refreshments that did assist with our world-solving discussions.
Supporting a House Change
A small group of guys jumped in to help a friend move a very large number of pots and sort and remove a lot of unwanted items from a garden shed. A lot of energy and plenty of banter resulted in a great effort. A very happy lady provided coffee with scones/jam/cream to close the session.
Transport needed for an important date
Marshall and I would like to thank Terry for taking the time to drive Marshall to Mornington to his driving assessment which took an hour for the assessment!! He was successful which is great.
We would also like to thank John Peters who took time from his Sunday to take rubbish to the tip for us. The Men’s Shed has wonderful kind members. It’s lovely to know there is always someone there who can help. Kind regards Marshall and Maria Rigbye
Help Remove Unwanted Timber Framing
Robin Ryan asked if some of the boys could help remove some unwanted garden framing and an old chicken run. No problem for Rob, John, Phil and Terry as the timber was removed from the garden beds. Job Done.
Storm Damage Repaired
We experienced some wild storms here on the coast. It was great to have some help on hand to restore our fence, hopefully stormproof!
