A blue tree has taken root in Sorrento. You’ll find it at McFarland Reserve near the Sorrento Football Netball Club. Once set for removal, this cypress has been transformed into something far more powerful.
A symbol of hope, connection and conversation.
Led by the Rotary Club of Sorrento, the project was inspired by former president Derek Ryan, whose vision was carried forward by Community Services Chair Brian Stacey and brought to life with the support of council, local volunteers and businesses. From the Pt Nepean Men’s Shed crafting the timber frame using recycled ironbark, to iD Signs, TITO Tree and Garden Care and Maw Civil, this is a true community effort.
Part of the global Blue Tree Project, each tree is a reminder that support is there and that conversations around mental health matter. There are now over 1600 blue trees worldwide.
This one holds special meaning for the local community, honouring lives and encouraging us all to look out for one another.
Take a moment if you pass by. And keep an eye out for more blue trees across the Peninsula
